Purpose of the Role
The Material / Inventory Handler – R&D Laboratory is responsible for end-to-end material management to support research and development activities. The role ensures uninterrupted availability of laboratory consumables, raw materials, chemicals, and equipment through effective planning, procurement coordination, system-driven tracking, and compliance-driven storage and issuance. The role requires close coordination with Lab, procurement, and finance teams.
Key Responsibility Areas
Material Planning & Procurement
- Plan and manage requirements for laboratory consumables, raw materials, chemicals, reagents and prototypes.
- Raise and track Purchase Requisitions (PRs) and Purchase Orders (POs) using SAP and Ariba.
- Coordinate with the Purchase team for timely sourcing, vendor follow-up, and expediting of critical R&D materials.
Inventory Management & Tracking
- Monitor stock levels, safety stock, shelf life, and lead times.
- Ensure FIFO / FEFO practices, especially for chemicals and shelf-life-controlled materials.
- Conduct periodic physical stock verification and system reconciliation.
Receiving, Storage & Issuance
- Check materials for quantity, specs, quality, and proper documentation.
- Store items according to MSDS, EHS, and lab safety rules.
- Issue materials to lab users as per approved requests.
- Tag, track, and store lab instruments and equipment.
- Work with analytical scientists to get approval of incoming materials, including collecting and sharing Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) through standard procedures.
