Description:

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Communications Specialist to support communications and engagement activities at our Somerset site. Sitting within the Corporate Communications function and reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, this role will play an important part in keeping our people, partners and local stakeholders informed and engaged as the site continues to develop.

Working closely with the Community Engagement Manager, wider Corporate Communications team and site-based teams, you will help plan and deliver a broad range of internal and external communications, site communications, events and community engagement activities.

This is a varied role requiring someone who is comfortable being close to the action, building relationships across the site and turning complex or fast-moving information into clear, engaging communications for different audiences. You will act as a key communications contact on site, helping identify stories, communications requirements and upcoming activities, while ensuring Somerset communications are aligned with the wider Agratas communications strategy.

The position is based at the Agratas manufacturing facility site near Bridgwater, Somerset, and requires on-site presence four days per week, as well as regular travel to meetings and events around the county.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Site communications
Act as a key day-to-day communications contact for the Somerset site, developing strong relationships across site leadership, construction, operations, HR, health and safety and other functions. Maintain a clear understanding of site developments, milestones and upcoming activities to identify communications needs and opportunities. Develop and deliver communications that keep relevant internal and external audiences informed about site progress, changes and key developments.
  • Internal communications and employee engagement
Support the planning and delivery of engaging internal communications for colleagues based at the Somerset site. Develop content across a range of channels, including site updates, leadership communications, presentations, newsletters, digital channels, briefings and campaigns. Work with site leaders and teams to identify stories that recognise our people, celebrate milestones and achievements, and help colleagues understand wider business priorities and developments.
  • External communications and content
Support the Corporate Communications team with external communications relating to the Somerset site and the surrounding area. Identify and develop positive stories about site progress, our people, partnerships and activity within the local community. Create written and visual content including monthly site update video for use across corporate channels, including the company website, social media and other external communications. Support the management of media and external enquiries where required, working with the relevant Corporate Communications leads.
  • Events planning and delivery
Plan, coordinate and deliver internal and external events at the Somerset site, working closely with the Community Engagement Manager and wider communications team. This could include employee events, leadership visits, stakeholder visits, community events, exhibitions, site tours, milestone celebrations and other business events. Coordinate event communications, logistics, materials, branding and stakeholder requirements to ensure events are professional, engaging and well organised.
  • Community engagement support
Support the Community Engagement Manager with the delivery of community engagement programmes and initiatives across Somerset and the South West. Assist with community events, meetings, exhibitions and outreach activity, as well as the development of supporting communications and materials. Build positive working relationships with community organisations, schools and colleges and other local stakeholders and support the effective handling and coordination of community enquiries.
  • Communications planning and coordination
Maintain a forward-looking view of communications, events, milestones and site activity, helping ensure communications are appropriately planned and coordinated. Support the development and management of site communications calendars and content plans and work closely with the wider Corporate Communications team to ensure Somerset activity aligns with wider business campaigns, announcements and priorities.
  • Issues and incident communications
Support the Community Engagement Manager, Corporate Communications team and site leadership with communications relating to emerging site issues or incidents. Help gather accurate information from relevant teams, prepare communications materials and coordinate timely updates for internal and external audiences where required. Ensure appropriate escalation processes are followed and communications are aligned with agreed emergency response plans.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience in a communications, employee communications, PR, marketing or stakeholder/community engagement role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, engaging content for different audiences.
  • Experience creating content across a range of internal and external communications channels.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines.
  • Experience supporting or delivering events, including coordinating logistics, communications and stakeholders.
  • Confident building relationships with colleagues at all levels of an organisation and comfortable working with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to identifying communications opportunities and risks rather than waiting for briefs or requests.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment where priorities may change.
  • Knowledge of Somerset and the surrounding community would be beneficial.
