About Agratas

At Agratas, we’re redefining the future of sustainable energy through cutting-edge battery technology. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Group, we are building a global battery business that powers the transition to electric mobility and renewable energy with integrity, innovation, and sustainability at our core.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Anode Scientist to join our growing R&D team in Oxford. You will act as a subject-matter expert, leading the development and evaluation of advanced and next-generation anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of battery cell technology, driving performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness across current and future product generations—from prototype development to scalable manufacturing.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Anode Innovation & Evaluation
Conduct advanced research on cutting-edge anode materials (e.g., natural/synthetic graphite, SiOx, Si-composite, graphite/CNT), enabling lithium-ion cells with high energy density, fast-charging capability, safety, and long life.

  • Advanced Material Understanding
Lead electrochemical characterisation and testing of anode materials and electrodes. Utilise chemical, physical, mechanical, and electrical testing to ensure compatibility with other cell components.

  • Next-Gen Strategy & Competitiveness
Propose next-gen anode materials and processing strategies aligned with Agratas’ technology roadmap. Evaluate commercial viability, IP potential, and environmental impact.

  • Cross-Functional R&D Collaboration
Work collaboratively with teams across R&D to integrate anode materials into cell concepts. Act as a technical lead in multidisciplinary projects.

  • Data-Driven Development
Apply structured experimentation, advanced data analytics, and design-of-experiments to optimise formulations, processing parameters, and cell performance.

  • Planning & Reporting
Maintain clear documentation of technical activities, experimental results, and insights. Provide regular updates to R&D leadership on project progress and key milestones.
