Purpose of the Role

The Cell Product Ownership & Validation team drive product delivery by transforming requirements into a validated design representative product, ensuring cell and engineering specifications are created and clearly communicated to the business.

As a Cell Validation Engineer, you will support battery cell validation activities across concept, design, and process phases. You will help translate requirements into robust validation plans and test procedures and support compliance with customer, legislative, and regulatory expectations. Working closely with senior validation engineers, and cross-functional teams, you will contribute to continuous improvement of validation approaches, review and interpret test data and clearly communicate technical insights to stakeholders, supporting our mission to deliver safe, high-performing, and durable energy storage solutions.

 

The position is based in Coventry with a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Support test planning and development of testing requirements for end-to-end concept, design and process validation (CV, DV, PV) phases for lithium-ion cells.
  • Develop test procedures and protocols to evaluate cell performance, durability and reliability under a range of operating conditions.
  • Analyse and interpret test data and generate clear structured technical reports
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support root cause analysis of cell failures using structured problem-solving techniques (e.g. 8D, Six sigma).
  • Maintain structured and traceable records of validation activities in a central database.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Cell Design, Test & Operations, CAE and Pack teams to integrate validation activities at every stage of the product development cycle.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering, Physics or a related field, with 2+ years of industry and/or academic experience in validation.
  • Fundamental understanding of lithium-ion battery cells, including key performance metrics
  • Hands-on experience with large-format cell testing
  • Experience developing test methodologies for Concept, Design & Process validation of  large format cells.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data using automated data processing tools (e.g. Matlab, Python), and communicate clear conclusions.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Desired

  • Knowledge of Li-ion cell design & Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Familiarity with failure analysis such as CT scanning, X-ray, cross-sectioning, or thermal imaging
