The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Prinicipal Cell Electrochemical and Aging Modelling Engineer to join our growing R&D team. This role is central to developing advanced modelling capabilities that underpin our cell design, performance optimisation and lifetime prediction strategies.
You will work at the forefront of lithium‑ion cell innovation, developing physics‑based and electrochemical models that directly influence product development and manufacturing excellence.

Key Responsibility Areas

•     Develop electrochemical models of lithium‑ion cells to predict voltage response across varying temperatures, states of charge and current conditions.
•     Build physics‑based and/or electrochemical models to understand how cell performance depends on design and manufacturing variables (e.g., coating thickness, material composition, microstructure).
•     Apply modelling insights to optimise cell design and manufacturing processes.
•     Develop empirical and/or physics‑based aging models for lithium‑ion cells.
•     Design experiments to calibrate aging models and validate them using laboratory tests and/or field data.
•     Use aging models to predict battery lifetime and warranty performance across different operating conditions.

Essential Skills & Experience

•     PhD in electrochemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
•     Minimum 3+ years of industrial experience in battery modelling.
•     Hands‑on experience with electrochemical modelling tools such as COMSOL, AutoLion or equivalent.
•     Deep understanding of lithium‑ion cell electrochemistry.
•     Strong knowledge of degradation mechanisms and failure modes in lithium‑ion cells.
•     Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink.

Desired Skills

•     Experience with BMS algorithms (SOP, SOC, SOH).
•     Exposure to AI or machine learning applications in design or manufacturing.

Additional Requirements

•     Strong leadership qualities and the ability to influence technical direction.
•     Effective project and resource management skills.

Job Context

Why Join Agratas?

•     Work on next‑generation battery technologies shaping the future of mobility and energy.
•     Be part of a fast‑growing organisation with the agility of a start‑up and the backing of Tata Sons.
•     Collaborate with world‑class experts across our global R&D hubs.
•     Contribute to sustainable innovation with real‑world impact.
