The Role: Product Excellence Senior Engineer

 

As a Product Excellence Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our battery cell products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance. Positioned within our Product Excellence team, you’ll collaborate across design, engineering, quality, and manufacturing to embed robust risk management and validation strategies throughout the product lifecycle.

You’ll lead technical activities such as DFMEAs, support PFMEAs, and translate risks into actionable test plans – ensuring our products are not only innovative, but reliable, traceable, and compliant.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Act as a technical interface between cell design, pack, process engineering, and quality teams to align on product requirements and risks.

  • Lead the development and maintenance of robust DFMEAs for lithium-ion battery cells using AIAG V5 methodology.

  • Support PFMEA activities and ensure structured risk capture across development and manufacturing stages.

  • Apply structured problem-solving tools (8D, Six Sigma, 5Why) to identify root causes and drive effective resolutions.

  • Integrate lessons learned into future product development to continuously improve product performance and reliability.

  • Develop and standardise documentation, templates, and traceability systems in line with internal standards and ISO/APQP frameworks.

  • Support cross-functional change management by ensuring traceability of design changes, validation outcomes, and product requirements.

 

About You

Essential:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience with DFMEA development for lithium-ion batteries.

  • Strong working knowledge of AIAG V5 FMEA methodology and APQP principles.

  • Proficient in ISO quality standards and structured problem-solving methods (Six Sigma Green Belt+, 8D, 5Why).

  • Solid understanding of lithium-ion cell design, development, and failure modes.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to work cross-functionally and influence technical and quality discussions.

Desirable:

  • PhD in a field related to lithium-ion batteries.

  • Experience with a Tier 1 battery manufacturer or within a high-volume battery production environment.

  • Familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems.
