Description:

Who we are…

Agratas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We design, develop and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors.

We are a scale-up business with a start-up mentality and the backing of a well-established parent company. The UK business headquarters is in the Midlands and we are currently building a battery manufacturing facility in Somerset and looking to compliment, scale and grow our R&D facilities in Abingdon and Coventry with the brightest minds from within the battery and EV sector.

Our battery technology roadmap is based on a foundation of world-class solutions for multiple applications. Collaborating with our technical partners, we are industrialising best-in-class high energy density and long-lasting battery cells. We are also committed to developing the next generation of battery technologies.

Purpose of the Role

As a Product Excellence Senior Engineer, you will provide critical technical oversight to ensure product and process robustness, working at the interface of Cell Design, Manufacturing Process Engineering, and Engineering Quality. Working across the full APQP lifecycle, the role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related risks that impact product performance, safety, and durability.

As a core member of the Product Ownership & Validation Department, you will support the development of DFMEAs and PFMEAs, partnering closely with Cell Design and Process Engineering to ensure failure modes are understood, controlled, and traceable through robust process and quality documentation.

The role plays a critical part in resolving process-driven product issues, applying structured root cause analysis and data-driven problem-solving methods to deliver sustainable corrective actions. You will also drive consistency, clarity, and traceability across engineering artefacts, ensuring a single, coherent technical baseline from development through production.

This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in cross-functional environments, enjoys problem-solving, and is motivated by building robust, scalable processes that ensure product quality.

This is a hybrid working role that will be based in our Coventry office.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Act as the primary technical interface between cell design, process engineering, and engineering quality teams to ensure robust product and process quality across all APQP phases.
  • Support the technical development, review and maintenance of DFMEAs and PFMEAs, ensuring alignment with AIAG V5 methodology and linkage to Control Plans and process controls.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve process-related product concerns, applying structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, root cause analysis) to drive effective and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify potential failure modes and process risks, ensuring timely mitigation and verification prior to production.
  • Drive consistency, accuracy, and traceability across engineering documentation, including for example templates, FMEAs, procedures and drawings.
  • Ensure engineering documentation remain aligned with design intent, manufacturing capability, and quality requirements throughout product and process changes.
  • Support APQP deliverables, PPAP readiness, and audit activities by providing technical input and evidence.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen documentation, process capability, and cross-functional ways of working.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or quality engineering, with involvement in process development, validation, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Provent capability in PFMEA development, using AIAG V5 methodology.
  • Working knowledge of ISO and IATF standards, with experience supporting audits, PPAP activities, and compliance requirements.
  • Practical application of problem-solving methodologies, and data-driven corrective action implementation.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and statistical tools (SPC, Cp/CpK, MSA) to assess process capability and risk.
  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery technologies, including key failure modes, degradation mechanisms, especially process-related risks.
  • Effective communication skills, and experience working in cross-functional teams, supporting design, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Desired

  • PhD related to lithium-ion batteries.
  • Experience working with or for a Tier 1 battery manufacturer.
  • Experience with PLM systems.
