Anode Material Engineer – Cell Design

The Opportunity

We’re now looking for a Senior Anode Material Engineer to lead the development and optimization of anode active materials, enabling breakthrough cell designs that meet the energy density, cycle life, and cost goals of next-generation battery platforms.
Key Responsibility Areas
Anode Material Selection & Sourcing

Conduct market analysis and benchmarking across graphite, silicon, SiO, SiC, and other advanced anode chemistries.

Lead material down-selection based on technical, commercial, and supply chain factors.

Act as a subject matter expert on anode material structure–property relationships.
Material Characterization & Testing
-
Define and execute testing protocols using SEM, XRD, PSD, and electrochemical methods (e.g., cycling, dq/dv, EIS).

Develop advanced techniques to speed up material evaluation and qualification.
Formulation & Integration
-
Support electrode design with input on binders, additives, and formulation compatibility.

Collaborate with electrolyte teams to manage anode–electrolyte interactions and sensitivities.
Supply Chain & Production Support

Support DFMEA, supplier audits, and material specification activities.

Advise on material handling, processing conditions, and production readiness.
Documentation & Reporting

Maintain anode material specifications and provide regular technical reports to stakeholders.
Qualifications & Background
Education:
-
PhD or Master’s in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering.
Experience:
-
Industry or academic experience in battery materials development, ideally focused on anodes.

Hands-on knowledge of material R&D, characterization, and scale-up for lithium-ion applications.

Technical Mastery

Deep expertise in anode active materials, including graphite, silicon composites (SiO, SiC), and other emerging chemistries.

Understanding of how particle size, surface chemistry, crystallinity, and morphology impact performance and processability.

Proven ability to scale materials from lab synthesis to high-volume production environments.
Testing & Analysis Proficiency

Skilled in advanced characterization techniques and interpreting complex electrochemical performance data.

Experience troubleshooting formulation or materials issues in cell development environments.
Industry Knowledge
-
Familiarity with key players in the global anode materials supply chain.

Awareness of market trends and the evolution of next-gen anode technologies.
Team & Communication Skills

Strong collaboration capabilities across R&D, operations, and commercial functions.

Ability to communicate findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
