The Opportunity
As an Electrochemist within our Applied Research function, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Li‑ion battery materials and electrochemical processes. You’ll work hands‑on in the lab, designing experiments, analysing data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to translate electrochemical insights into real‑world cell performance improvements.
Your work will directly influence the development of next‑generation cell technologies—enhancing energy density, safety, cycle life, and overall performance.
Key Responsibility Areas
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead electrochemical R&D to optimise cell reactions, material interactions, and performance characteristics.
- Develop and refine materials including electrodes, electrolytes, and separators for next‑gen chemistries.
- Conduct advanced electrochemical testing such as EIS, cyclic voltammetry, and charge/discharge cycling.
- Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, diagnose issues, and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, cell design, and materials science teams to integrate findings into prototypes and scale‑up activities.
- Document and communicate results through detailed reports, presentations, and technical insights.
- Stay ahead of industry developments by monitoring emerging research, technologies, and scientific literature.
Job Context
What You’ll Bring
- Strong expertise in electrochemistry, ideally with direct experience in Li‑ion battery systems.
- Hands‑on proficiency in electrochemical testing techniques (EIS, CV, cycling).
- Solid understanding of battery materials science, including electrode and electrolyte behaviour.
- A creative, analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex electrochemical challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- High attention to detail and commitment to scientific rigour in experimentation and documentation.
Qualifications
This role is ideal for an electrochemist with:
- A degree or PhD in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience in Li‑ion battery research, applied electrochemistry, or energy storage technologies.
Leadership qualities—such as initiative, ownership, and the ability to influence technical direction—are highly valued.
