Power the Future With Us
Agratas is on a mission to accelerate a more sustainable future. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, we design, develop, and manufacture next‑generation lithium‑ion batteries for mobility and energy storage applications. Backed by Tata’s global scale and stability, we operate with the pace, ambition, and creativity of a high‑growth scale‑up — and we’re just getting started.
At our state‑of‑the‑art Cell R&D Facility in Oxfordshire, we’re building something extraordinary. To support our rapid growth, we’re looking for a Principal Electrolyte Innovation Scientist to join our Cell Research Team.
This is a rare opportunity for a hands‑on electrolyte expert with a proven track record of delivering Li‑ion cell technology to the EV market. If you’ve already advanced innovative electrolyte concepts from early‑stage chemistry through to prototype cells, this role puts you at the forefront of shaping the next generation of battery technology.
Key Responsibility Areas
• Develop, validate, and implement strategies to optimise liquid electrolyte compositions to improve key cell performance indicators.
• Lead advanced analysis and characterisation of electrolyte formulations, additives, and electrode–electrolyte interfaces to understand their impact on performance and durability.
• Demonstrate scalability of novel materials and formulations from coin cells to single‑layer and multi‑layer pouch cells.
• Interpret experimental data and provide clear, evidence‑based insights to the Cell Development team and wider Technology Function.
• Collaborate across R&D on topics including interphase engineering, electrochemistry, and safety.
• Support the transfer of new electrolyte technologies into Cell Development through processes such as New Technology Introduction (NTI).
• Contribute to the creation and execution of a competitive Electrolyte Technology Roadmap.
• Design and deliver novel electrolyte formulations using experimental, modelling, and machine‑learning approaches.
• Identify patentable innovations and support IP strategy, including filing and prior‑art analysis.
• Build and maintain a strong network of academic and industrial partners.
• Line‑manage, mentor, and develop a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Review technical outputs and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
• Support the growth, capability development, and continuous improvement of the R&D organisation.
