Powering a Sustainable Future – Together
At Agratas, we’re more than a battery company – we’re pioneers building the next generation of energy solutions for mobility and energy storage. A wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, we combine bold ambition with global backing to drive innovation in lithium-ion battery technology.
At our brand-new, state-of-the-art Cell R&D facility in Oxfordshire, we're assembling a world-class team to deliver tomorrow’s battery breakthroughs – today. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Scientist – Semi-Solid-State Batteries to join our Fundamental Research Team.
About the Role
As a Scientist in our Cell R&D function, you'll play a vital role in the research and development of Semi-Solid-State and All-Solid-State Battery (ASSB) technologies. From novel materials to cell design and prototyping, you’ll help push the boundaries of what's possible in battery performance, safety, and scalability.
This role is ideal for a passionate, pragmatic researcher who thrives in a collaborative, high-impact environment and wants to see their work move from the lab to the real world.
Key Responsibility Areas
-
Develop, validate and benchmark critical SSSB/ASSB cell components, including catholytes, anolytes, additives, high-capacity active materials, and separators.
-
Assemble R&D-scale SSSB/ASSB cells and perform electrochemical testing to analyse performance impacts.
-
Collaborate across Cell R&D teams to evaluate components at material, electrode, and full-cell levels.
-
Analyse experimental data, document insights, and communicate findings clearly.
-
Support the daily operation and maintenance of dry, wet, and analytical laboratories.
-
Operate and maintain benchtop prototyping lines for Cell R&D.
-
Drive the scale-up of innovative concepts into multi-layer pouch cells.
What You Bring
Required Experience & Skills:
-
3–5 years of hands-on research experience in SSSB/ASSB development.
-
Strong skills in cell design, prototyping, and electrochemical testing.
-
In-depth understanding of materials chemistry, interface science, failure modes, and suppression strategies.
-
Solid knowledge of materials science, analytical methods, and lithium-ion cell systems.
-
Understanding of battery electrochemistry.
Ideal Background:
-
Graduate degree (PhD/MSc) in materials science, chemistry, or electrochemistry.
-
Industry experience with leading battery developers or manufacturers is a strong plus.
