Purpose of the Role

Battery Cell Test Technician

Agratas R&D – Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK, Full time on-site.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Agratas is a pioneering force in advanced battery technology, driven by a mission to deliver the next generation of sustainable energy solutions. As we expand our world-class R&D centre in Oxford, we are looking for a Battery Cell Test Technician to help shape our electrochemical testing laboratory from the ground up.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technician with a passion for battery testing, laboratory operations, and continuous improvement. You’ll play a critical role in executing test programs, supporting data reporting, and ensuring the lab operates safely, efficiently, and at the highest technical standards.

 

Key Responsibility Areas

Electrochemical Test Execution

  • Set up and execute cell and component testing according to detailed test plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Make minor adjustments to test protocols based on project requirements or observed performance.

  • Ensure compliance with lab safety policies and participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and improvement initiatives.

Scheduling & Operational Support

  • Assist in the scheduling of daily test activities and coordinate resources to support ongoing project demands.

  • Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and project leads to ensure smooth lab operations.

Data Handling & Communication

  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs for all test activities.

  • Support scientists with data extraction, file management, and basic trend analysis.

  • Report anomalies or test deviations promptly and clearly to the relevant technical teams.

Equipment Maintenance & Management

  • Perform routine checks, calibrations, and preventive maintenance on test equipment (e.g., cyclers, thermal chambers).

  • Monitor and manage consumables, tools, and spare parts inventory.

  • Liaise with equipment suppliers and vendors to resolve technical issues and stay up to date with equipment best practices.

Job Context

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in an electrochemical, battery testing, or related laboratory environment.

  • Strong hands-on experience with battery cyclers, temperature chambers, and environmental test setups.

  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, SOPs, and safe operating procedures.

  • Good understanding of lab safety, including 5S principles and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work across cross-functional project teams.

  • Comfortable mentoring junior technicians and contributing to team knowledge sharing.

 

Desirable

  • Experience supporting the setup or commissioning of new test labs or equipment.

  • Proactive mindset with a strong focus on continuous improvement, organisation, and operational excellence.
